Dove
season at the 74 Ranch has come to a close, and we are one month
into deer season.
At the time of this writing, we have just completed our first
weekend of quail hunting.
Dove
season started out with a bang and we maintained an average season
for birds harvested.
Towards the end, however, due to a very dry summer, the bird
quantities we started the season with did not prove sustainable for
the later groups.
For that I apologize, but “that’s hunting”.
The 2010 season was just the opposite due to rain.
So
far, the deer season has been excellent!
We have taken some extraordinary trophies.
Two bucks have gone over 200”, and all the rest have been
in striking distance of the 200” mark!
I want to point out that those deer cost each hunter the same
amount of money regardless of score.
I could not be more pleased with the outcome, and I
congratulate the guests and the guides for their success to date.
We
have some more exciting news planned for next season.
We are introducing a great package for deer hunters to hunt
with family members.
This family package will allow father/son or father/daughter combinations to hunt together
for 2 trophy bucks!
Now here’s the kicker - a son can bring his dad as well.
In other words, no age limits.
The object is to extend the ultimate experience of hunting
with your son, daughter or dad at a great location like the 74 Ranch
Resort. That
is what it's all about!!
The
best memories are built around hunting trips with friends and
family. It
is often the link between two and sometimes three generations.
It has been that way in my family, and I want you to enjoy
that experience as well.

Hunting
season is finally here! We are two weekends in, and our hunters are
still getting limits of doves. Despite the extremely dry and hot
summer, our irrigated fields are producing doves. It is great to see
our friends back for another awesome hunting season at the 74 Ranch
Resort.
Deer
season starts October 1st here at the ranch (MLD Permit), and the
biggest deer ever killed here was taken Saturday by one of our
guides. One might ask, are the guides shooting all the deer before
the guests arrive? Think again! This guide booked a hunt at the new
price of $6,500. There is no kill fee with the new rate, so whether
you kill a 120" or a 218" you pay one time and one time
only!
Jason
Mitchell is the proud hunter who harvested that buck, which scored
an impressive 218 inches! This was one of the first generation of
fawns bred by the 74 Ranch and released 4 years ago. Every year that
goes by, each generation of fawns gets better. We have seen a lot of
great trophy bucks this summer, and as the weather cools down we
expect to see many more!

Welcome to
the news section. Since our last posting was 7 years ago, it is probably time
for an update...
There
have been a lot of changes in the past 7 years at the 74 Ranch, but
we are very fortunate to have many loyal guests who return to visit
the ranch each year and rarely miss a season. It is always special
to see our old friends again and to meet new ones along the way.
The
quail hunting has been really successful because we offer so many
more birds than most places at one flat rate, with no added charges
for things we believe we owe you.
The
deer hunting has been producing great trophies and we are excited at
the success we are having with our management techniques improving
the herd every year. We expect to harvest some really nice bucks
this year.
We
have changed our Trophy Deer Hunting package to a one-time flat fee
for any trophy buck! Yes, you heard that right, NO TROPHY FEE!
Shoot
a 140-inch buck for the same price as a 200-inch buck. It seems high
time someone changed the rules on deer hunting. After all, why
should an 1/8 of an inch cost you more money? That is why we've
decided to put the FUN back into deer hunting.
As
the 2011-12 season approaches, the staff at the 74 Ranch Resort is
looking forward to a great year of hunting and shooting fun. We will
try to update this page more frequently from now on to keep you
informed about the news here at the ranch.

SNOW
at the 74 Ranch Resort!
On
Christmas Eve 2004, the 74 Ranch Resort was covered in a 6-inch
blanket of snow! As you can imagine, this is a phenomenon that
rarely occurs in South Texas! Check out the photos of our winter
wonderland. Click on thumbnails for a closer view.
To
schedule a hunt or a business meeting,
we invite you to call the 74 Ranch Resort at 830-579-7474.
